Hunting Season Trail Reminders

Hunting season is upon us, but that doesn't mean you have to miss out on your favorite trail adventures! Here are some tips to keep you safe and make the most of your outdoor excursions:

Trail Awareness: It's unlikely that hunters are setting up near your favorite trail, but they might use them to access deeper areas of the woods. Remember, hunting is not a crowded sport.

Stay Visible: Wear blaze orange clothing, including a full-coverage vest and hat, as required for hunters. Be seen, be safe!

Be Audible: Add an extra layer of safety by wearing a bell or other noise maker. A whistle can come in handy too. Make your presence known while you hike.

Buddy System: Whenever possible, hike with a friend. Safety in numbers is always a good idea.

Choose Wisely: During hunting season, opt for hiking areas with higher use and closer to built communities - the front country is a great choice.

Timing Matters: Plan your trail activities in the middle of the day, between 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Hunters are often active during the early morning and early evening when game is more active. Deer tend to rest in the middle of the day.

Stay safe, be mindful, and have a fantastic time on the trails during hunting season. Enjoy the beauty of nature while keeping these tips in mind!
