Welcome to MTC

The Maine Trails Coalition is dedicated to the establishment, enjoyment, and stewardship of trails throughout the state. 

Founded in 2019 as a diverse coalition of organizations, businesses, and public agencies, we work together to champion trails from the coast to the mountains. We believe that an inclusive, statewide voice for trails benefits everyone who lives, works, and plays in Maine.

We are working toward a Maine where:

• Trails are for Everyone: An extensive, accessible network connects our communities and is open to all.
• Trails are Valued: Every Mainer understands how trails improve our quality of life and our local economies.
• Trails are Supported: State and local leaders prioritize trails as essential infrastructure for transportation, tourism, and health.
• Stewardship is Standard: Our communities have the tools and the passion to care for our trails for generations to come.​

When it is fully up and running, this this centralized tool will help you find and connect with:

• Trail Contractors & Service Providers: Source verified professionals to clear paths, design bridges, and grade terrain.
• MTC Ambassador Volunteers: Get matched with an experienced mentor who can guide your local group or club through the state grant application process.
• Bureau of Parks and Lands (BPL) Contacts: Reach out directly to the state agency administrators managing the Maine Trails Program.
• MTC Committees & Working Groups: Learn more about our four active volunteer divisions and find out how you can join the table.

MTP Project Success for Great Works Regional Land Trust

Thanks to a critical infusion of funding from the Maine Trails Program, Great Works Regional Land Trust is currently constructing its very first Universal Access trail. When completed this fall, the project will feature a one-mile, universally accessible looping trail.

Katahdin Area Trails Takes Off!

Thanks to an infusion of funding from the Maine Trails Program and the Northern Borders Regional Commission, a decade of planning is bearing fruit for the towns of Millinocket, Patten, and Island Falls in the Katahdin region under the guidance of the Outdoor Sport Institute.
